Public Transportation bus drivers to be laid-off

The owners of all public transportation buses are getting ready to lay off more than 550 public transportation bus drivers


The owners of all public transportation buses are getting ready to lay off more than 550 public transportation bus drivers as part of the public transportation modernization.

According to the information provided by members of the city’s Mobility Plan Implementation, the permits will be revoked only to be reissued to a single management company, where the more than 500 public transportation bus owners will now become stock holders.

As a result, those providing the service will no longer be licensees, but a company that will have to hire new drivers and comply with strict requirements.

The current licensees could recommend their drivers; however it won’t be a guarantee that they will be hired by the new company, which will provide services with more than 84 new buses and 400 currently being used.

Up until this moment, no information regarding the date of such lay-offs has been revealed, but the new management company has already been constituted. This company will be in charge of hire those who will provide the digital charge service, credit card issuance, as well as the acquisition of the new buses, and of course, hire the new drivers.
